About this event

Our program this month will be presented by Alexander Modly from Shelton Herb Farm. Alex and her dog Rhett Butler have been working at the farm for six years, and she has managed Shelton Herb Farm since 2022. Alex will present a power point program on the following: Significance & Symbolism of Fragrant and Culinary Herbs

Across cultures and throughout history, humanity has ascribed significance & meaning to herbs. Herbs played a major role in day-to-day life used as medicine, to flavor food, and in worship. As such, herbal knowledge, the symbolism & significance of herbs, was as intrinsic to everyday life as understanding traffic signals. Some are known for their calming and tranquil properties, such as Chamomile and Lavender. While others are associated with protection, courage & wisdom like Dill, Thyme, and Sage.

Learn more about the significance and symbolism behind common fragrant & culinary herbs as well as less common varieties. There will be potted and cut herb varieties for you to touch and smell, informational handouts and a question-and-answer session.
